We’ll let you in on the secret of a successful raw diet – Variety
Variety ensures a well-balanced and nutritious meal for you pet to thrive. Therefore, the research shows us that feeding a variety of prey sources weekly will guarantee that they are experiencing a complete diet (we recommend at least three different prey sources per week).
It is recommended that you are feeding a mix of muscle meat, bones, offal, and green tripe to ensure your pet gets all the vitamins and minerals that they require to reach optimal health.
A BARF diet suggests a ratio of 80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bone, and 10% organs or digestible vegetables.
A prey model diet PMR suggests a ratio of 75-80% muscle meat, 10% raw edible bones, 5% liver, 5% other secreting organs (kidney, spleen) and 0.5% animal-based fibre (fur, feathers, rabbit feet etc).
When feeding bones, be sure to actively supervise and feed raw, defrosted and size appropriate to ensure your pet can consume them safely.
If your desired outcome is to reduce weight of your pet, then it is better to feed 2% of their ideal body weight and to focus on introducing leaner meats. If your desired outcome is weight gain, then we suggest that increasing your pets weight feeding to 3.5% of their body weight can be beneficial.
Taranaki Green Tripe is an excellent addition to a dog’s daily diet and can be fed as an alternative to vegetables (if you are also feeding vegetables or are thinking of it).
Helpful hint – feeding tripe alongside a bone can be incredibly beneficial in aiding your pets digestive system.
